Vivian Black, Producer And Director
Since her first video, "Slaves of lust," in 1996, Vivian worked hard to find sets to film her video clips. She visited cemeteries, churches, abandoned houses, and some typical locations of Buenos Aires, but which did not identify their country of origin, so as not to be associated with a particular country or region. In this way, the audience would focus more on the artistic interface.
To obtain the tools and accessories used in her productions, she visited some antique shops, to rent the objects to make the scenery for her video clips. She would also telephone her friends for the same purpose. Then, with the script in hand, and using her creativity, she would choose the most appropriate objects and the sets for filming from a detailed list, very carefully.
Vivian’s costumes and make-up are entirely her own, taken from her vast wardrobe. She was characterized and dressed by herself, without any help, for all of her events. Moreover, in the same script, she would make notes about the camera angles, the lights positions, filming takes, with different alternatives, to ensure an excellent result. Also, in these pages, she would write down the lyrics of the soundtrack of the video clip,
in order to be able to direct in a more specific way. With these elements she made the best selection, sentence by sentence of the lyrics with every take of the videotape, to represent faithfully the content of the song. This pre-editing was done very carefully, in order to obtain a better final product. She ended every job with the assistance of the operator at the commands from the editing console.
The last two video clips, "Hellrising Crown" and "Devil or Angel", were notably different from the previous three (the two versions of "Slaves of lust" and "Going on my Way") in which she added to the process used, the "cinema effect", which consists in a minimum delay of the image frames in relation to sound, giving the video clip a treatment for the individual 35mm film support.
As an artistic producer, it is important to mention that she was assistant of the chief of production for a TV program, related to Satanism, in 1997 (see "Occultist").
